Creating a unique piece of jewellery that tells a personal story is a special experience. This guide outlines the custom jewellery process and answers common questions about commissions.

Custom Bespoke Jewellery

The Commission Process

Initial Consultation

The process begins with a conversation to discuss ideas, preferences, and budget. This can take place in person or over the phone. The discussion covers design concepts, desired elements, and inspiration. As each piece is bespoke, the process takes time, and this is reflected in the price. Reference images may be requested to better understand the vision.

Design Proposal

A design sketch is created to illustrate the concept, including materials, gemstones, and design details. The sketch is reviewed together, and adjustments can be made before finalising the design.

Material Selection

Once the design is approved, materials such as metals and gemstones are selected. Guidance is provided to help choose options that align with quality, aesthetic, and budget preferences.

Approval and Deposit

After confirming the design and materials, a deposit is required to begin production. This deposit forms part of the total cost and secures the start of the commission.

Creation Process

The crafting of the jewellery begins. Depending on the complexity of the design and materials, this stage can take several weeks or longer. Regular updates, including photos and progress meetings, are provided throughout the process.

Final Review and Delivery

When the piece is complete, a final review takes place to ensure every detail meets expectations. Once approved, the remaining balance is due. Delivery or collection is then arranged.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you decide not to take on a commission?

Yes. Commissions may be declined if the design does not align with the usual style of work or if the schedule is fully booked.

How long does the custom jewellery process take?

The process typically takes between 6 and 12 weeks from the initial consultation to final delivery, depending on design complexity and material availability.

Can I use my own gemstones or materials?

Yes, existing stones or metals can be incorporated if they are suitable for the design. The materials will be assessed for compatibility, and the cost will be adjusted accordingly. Please note that old jewellery is not remodelled.

What if I’m not satisfied with the final piece?

Every effort is made to ensure satisfaction. Adjustments can be discussed to ensure the final piece meets expectations.

Can I make changes to the design after approval?

Changes after approval can be challenging and may incur additional costs. It is best to finalise all details during the design proposal stage.

The goal is to make the commission process both enjoyable and collaborative, ensuring a clear understanding of each step so that the final piece perfectly reflects the intended design.
